  • Heather Shapulis, 37, has been homeless and living on the streets of Seattle for over 11 years. Originally from Kentucky, Shapulis attributes her homelessness to her continuted drug addiction. Although she has stayed at shelters before, Shapulis prefers to live on the street saying that most shelters are full of "mental people and theives." She is aware of drug rehabilitaion programs but says she isn't ready for that. Shapulis is ashamed of what her mother would think of her life and hasn't spoken to her for over three years.

  • Originally from Tacoma, Eighteen year old Shanna Gorr has been homeless in Seattle since she was eleven due to family problems. Gorr and Shapulis regularly get high together under the I-5 overpass in Capitol Hill near Pine Street. Gorr says that the police occasionally will sweep campsites and "are very rude," often throwing away people's blankets and belongings.
